To look at a Kanevsky painting is to enter into a conversation with the artist.  Though  he freely admits his influence to other great artists such as Diebenkorn, Freud, Rembrandt, Cezanne, his style remains uniquely his own.   There is a great sense of time in his work that is conveyed through the simultaneous presence of action and stillness.  The paint is rich and luminous and it is apparent that the canvas is repeatedly worked over and over again. In each painting, Kanevsky is having an extended dialogue with his canvas about his subject and the result is that looking at his work feels like eavesdropping on an intimate conversation.
